THE GRAVITY GIVES PROJECT
ABOUT GREG
|
|

|
|
BY DAY
As a service manager for an established chain of automotive repair
shops, Greg enjoys the chance to meet people and help them with
their automotive needs. He and his staff have dedicated themselves
to providing quality, but more importantly, honest service to all
their customers. As a result, he has developed a loyal and growing
client base. Greg has worked in automotive repair for over twelve
years.
Greg was born and raised in a large family in Sault Ste. Marie,
Ontario. He moved to Milton, Ontario in 2001 where he quickly got
involved with a number of community and service groups and in 2007
got into local politics.

BY EVENING
Being involved in his home community is important to Greg Nelson.
Since moving to Milton in 2001, he has volunteered his time and
energy to several causes including:
-
Halton
Community Policing Committee (former Chair)
-
Arts
Milton (former Chair)
-
Milton
Physician Recruitment and Retention Task Force
-
The Deck
Youth Centre of Milton (Vice Chair)
His local
involvement led him to the political arena where he first ran for
Town Council in 2003. He made a strong showing but could not defeat
the incumbent. He ran again in a close contest in 2006. Undeterred,
when a vacancy on Council created the need for a by-election in the
spring of 2007, Greg ran again and won.
Greg is an active and committed Town Council representative in
Canada’s fastest growing community. This brings with it a host of
challenges as the Town deals with growth and infrastructure needs
and a steady influx of new residents.
In addition to representing his constituents, Greg is giving back to
the community with his volunteer work with:
-
Halton
Learning Foundation (Board of Directors)
-
Italian
Canadian Club of Milton
-
Milton
Santa Claus Parade Committee
-
Milton
Seniors Activity Centre Advisory Board
-
The Deck
Youth Centre (Council Liaison)

ON WEEKENDS!
In the mid 1990’s Greg ventured into
the extreme world. He completed 17 skydives in Ontario as well as
Nevada. Then he got hooked on the thrill and the challenge of bungee
jumping. He performed a total of 27 bungee jumps in Ottawa, Ontario;
Las Vegas, Nevada; and Wakefield, Quebec.
Most of his bungee jumps were in Wakefield at Great Canadian Bungee
(GCB). The jump at GCB is the highest in North America at 200 feet.
He excelled at doing specialty jumps there and in 1997 surpassed the
record, completing the most number of jumps by a customer in a day
by doing 7 jumps in just 3 hours.
Now at the age of 44 and after a 12-year absence, he is looking to
stage his comeback at the Verzasca Dam by attempting to jump the
most number of times from the 728-foot structure in one day.
